Using KeyPreview to handle form shortcut keys

If you need to trap shortcut keys in your application to perform misc tasks, use the following code to set KeyPreview to true and then in the KeyDown event handle the actual clicks:

 private void Form_OnLoad(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
KeyPreview
= true;
}

private void form_KeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e)
{

if (e.Alt && e.KeyCode.ToString() == “L”)
{

//DO Something
}
}

WordPress 2.7: Coming Soon

Just Spotted this on Janes Blog, hope she doesnt mind me putting it here 🙂

As you may know, we’ve been working behind the scenes on the design and development of version 2.7 of the WordPress software that powers your blog. The administration interface you’re used to will be changing as a result of your feedback and the results of the usability testing we conducted over the summer. Version 2.7 is due to release officially on November 10, but in the meantime, we’re posting sneak previews of the look and functionality to come. So far we’ve covered the new navigation system and the new Dashboard. If you want to get an early idea of what you can expect come November, head over to the WordPress.org blog and check out The Visual Design of 2.7 and The New 2.7 Dashboard.

We’ll be publishing more descriptions of how things will work over the next couple of weeks so that when the change comes it won’t be a complete surprise. We’re also working on new Help materials that you can use for reference (replacing FAQs, screencasts, etc.) while you adjust to the new structure. Overall, the response so far is that the new interface is easier to use, and that it’s faster to access the screens people use most, so hopefully once you’ve checked out the posts linked above, you’ll be as excited for the launch of 2.7 as we are.

What really gets my goat about the latest 'credit crisis'

Is the fact that it’s purely down to greedy banks and corporations trying to get rich and greedy with our money and then when it all goes tits up going back to their £5 million palaces and enjoying the money they have made whilst the likes of normal people like you and me have to work out butts off to stay afloat.

When will people realise that crap governments, poor bankers, shitty sharedealers and most importantly fat cats like oil sheiks, energy bosses etc are the main cause for all this upset and do something about it?

Why the hell should oil production be tapped down just because the price of a barrell has dropped – simply so the sheiks can rip us off with higher prices and line their million pound loos with more gold embossed wallpaper (maybe they use it to wipe their asses as well?)

Why should energy bosses be pulling in close to a million pounds per year and then tell us we need to pay more for gas and electricity – you really are not worth paying even a quarter of what you earn so give some back!

I could go on and on here, maybe I should just call it quits for now but I don’t think i’m alone in my thoughts here!

I need help choosing a new digital camera for Wifey

I’m currently using an Eos 30d with a variety of lens and kit to support my wedding, landscape and sports photography and as I drag my new wife around with me, i’ve usually got her on one arm and my camera on the other.

As a result she has finally given in and decided to join me in my hobby, so I am training her up in what to look out for and the various settings on my camera – actually she is picking it up really quickly so I want to get a camera for her own use that is simple enough to use for the basic snappy shots but where she can also accompany me on shoots and get different perspective and reportage style shots.

Herein lies my dillema – I need a second EOS body, i’m ankling after the EOS 5d MkII to use as my primary with the 30d as backup with lens fitted to both for quick shooting. Wifey needs something and i’d like to give her an Eos but it would be too large for the snappy shots and casual taking hence need something more compact but with ideally with the following features:

Control over TV and AV modes for creativity
Flash
Zoom would be great too!
Decent LCD Display
Reasonably Compact design

Any ideas on what I should be looking for? I’m not specifically after new as there are a lot of secondhand bargains around, just too bloody many to choose from.

Was looking at the PowerShot SD450 but there seem to be a lot of problems with E18 errors and it does not cover all the modes I would like – could be a useful backup though.

So any suggestions?

B&B nationalisation is confirmed

I’m glad my mortgage is not with B&B:

Mortgage lender Bradford & Bingley (B&B) is to be nationalised, the government has confirmed.

Under the arrangement, the government will take control of the bank’s £50bn in mortgages and loans. Shares in the company have been suspended.

B&B’s £20bn savings business and branch network will be bought by rival Abbey, which is in turn owned by Spanish banking group Santander.

B&B is the latest bank to fall victim to the crisis in the financial sector.

“Following recent turbulence in global financial markets, Bradford & Bingley has found itself under increasing pressure as investors and lenders lost confidence in its ability to carry on as an independent institution,” said the Treasury.

About the name Simon Steed

This is funny as hell, did a search on google for my name and blog and came across a site which promised to tell me all about myself, some of the stuff is pretty cool, things like

  1. Apparently i’m very well envoweled – 40% of the letters are vowels. Of one million first and last names they looked at, 29.7% have a higher vowel make-up.
  2. I like this one, my name spelt backwards is the pretty cool Nomis Deets
  3. Your ‘Numerology’ number is 6. If it wasn’t bulls**t, it would mean that you are responsible, careful, and compassionate. A giver, you are there to support and care for the most vulnerable.
